My interest in showing animals started when I was old enough to jump on a horse and compete in 4-H and as a rodeo princess in high school. In 1976 I started showing dogs with my Doberman Pinscher "Maggie" who taught me the ropes in both conformation and obedience. In 1984 I was introduced to the Whippet breed by Janet Vanwormer of Chehalem Kennels who graciously shared with me two very special Whippets who were to become the foundation of "JADE" Whippets. Their names are BIF Ch. Chehalem’s Santa Maria FCH and Ch. Chehalem’s Mr. Good Bar FCH. Thanks to "Ria" and "Handsome", the Jade Kennel is proud to have bred or co-bred show, obedience and field titled champion offspring as well as Hound Group and Specialty winners. Additionally we have been honored to present several Top Twenty Contenders and received the official Westminster Invitation to attend the Garden in February, 2006 with Mutli Select, SBIS Am/Can Ch. Windy Days Jade McKenzie. As a Whippet breeder/exhibitor, I have always taken great pride in exhibiting Whippets that are of classic type, sound on the move and possess that bulletproof temperament required of a multipurpose Sighthound. I believe in health screenings for hereditary defects and breed accordingly. My continuing education about the Whippet breed includes judging specialty sweepstakes, the American Whippet Club National Specialty 2001 Top Twenty Breeder judge in 2001 and most recently I was honored to be voted in as the American Whippet Club National Specialty Futurity judge for 2002! I am currently a member pf the American Whippet Club and the Top Twenty Committee as well as an active member of the Cascade Whippet Club. As a Whippet breed mentor, I enjoy presenting seminars for aspiring Whippet judges. This web site has a slide show presentation of the current version of the AKC Whippet standard.
